CANFIELD — The Canfield Fair Board on Thursday received a $1 million gift from the Youngstown Foundation on behalf of the Kusalaba Family Fund to underwrite phase 2 of the Canfield Fair Junior Fair event center.

This gift will provide additional space to the west end of the facility, including offices and restrooms. Youngstown Foundation President Lynette Ford said the Foundation was approached in January asking for funding for the approximately $1.9 million phase 2 expansion.

“It needed bathrooms. It needed offices and it needed space for kids to bring their animals and their passions,” Ford said.

Fair Board President Bob Jarvis said, “These kids are so exceptional, and they deserve this facility, but we are not done here. We are already looking forward to phases 3 and 4.”

Construction on phase 2 will begin following the 176th annual fair, which runs through Monday.
