3 overdoses reported at Columbiana County jail

LISBON — The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office and the county drug task force are investigating recent overdoses at the county jail.

“We believe we know who brought it in,” Sheriff Brian McLaughlin said regarding the drugs.

According to McLaughlin and Chief Deputy Jen Tucker, overdoses on Sept. 16 and Sept. 20 at the Columbiana County lockup were both drug-related, with both inmates given the overdose reversal drug Narcan and taken to an area hospital. The inmates tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl, according to the sheriff.

The third incident occurred Friday and involved an alleged suicide attempt after an inmate possibly took multiple Motrin and seriquil. Two doses of Narcan were given to the inmate, who was taken to the hospital.

McLaughin said the county drug task force is conducting the investigation into the drugs.
