25 gunshots riddle house on East Lucius on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Young men are suspected of being responsible for as many as 25 gunshots being fired at a home in the 200 block of East Lucius Avenue on the South Side.

The Saturday episode resulted in “bullet holes throughout numerous walls and windows” of a home. No one was home.

The damage was reported at 7:18 p.m. Saturday. Officers were called to East Lucius for a Shot Spotter activation, which alerts police to gunfire on the South Side.

Witnesses said they saw a dark Honda with broken windows traveling east on Lucius. The vehicle stopped, and about four occupants, who appeared to be males between 17 and 20 years old, fired weapons at the house.

Officers observed shell casings and broken glass on the roadway outside of the home, as well as bullet holes “throughout the walls and windows of the home” and one bullet hole in the windshield of a nearby vehicle.

The homeowner arrived a short time after officers arrived. Officers were told the home had been hit with bullets earlier this year. Officers collected seven bullet shell casings of one type and 18 casings of another type in the roadway in front of the home. The casings were taken into evidence.
