WARREN -- A Warren woman on Thursday was given a one-year term at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville for two felony theft convictions.
Jalisa Jethroe, 30, of Clemmens Avenue, had opted to forgo an Aug. 15 trial by pleading guilty to the two fifth-degree felonies on July 26. The defendant also agreed to pay $1,416 in restitution by paying $100 per month. Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald J. Rice agreed to give Jethroe credit for her time served in Trumbull County jail since March 1.
Before sentencing, Rice commented on the defendant's extensive history of stealing, and noted 16 convictions since 2011.
During her plea hearing, a public defender commented she stole for an abusive man, who then sold the items. A Bazetta police incident report from September 2021 also mentioned that she stole for the man.
A Sept. 22, 2021, police report noted a woman was seen on camera stealing several high-priced items, including a speaker set, from the Walmart on Millennium Boulevard in Bazetta. On Sept. 24, Bazetta police were called to the same Walmart for a robbery in progress. Jethroe and another woman made it outside with a shopping cart full of merchandise they had not paid for, but left the cart and ran once they heard police sirens, a report states.
Last month, Jethroe appeared before Judge Anthony Donofrio in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court and pleaded guilty to theft and possessing criminal tools charges. She received probation, out of which her attorney Heather Ninni said she was sentenced to the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative rehab program. In the Mahoning County case, Jethroe and a man were charged with stealing some $1,000 in electronics from the Austintown Home Depot in December 2021.
Back in Trumbull County, Jethroe was sent to Judge Andrew Logan's drug court docket on May 24, 2022, after she pleaded guilty to a felony theft and criminal trespass misdemeanor, which was linked to a Feb. 19, 2020, arrest by Howland police. In drug court, Jethroe had the chance to stay out of trouble for a year and then have her conviction dismissed.
