Man arrested after breaking into home, eating out of fridge

AUSTINTOWN — Claiming to be part of a cleaning service, a Youngstown man accused of breaking into an Austintown home had his case bound over to a grand jury on Wednesday.

Alexander Solomon, 30, of East Lucius Avenue, faces charges of aggravated burglary and felony drug possession, court records show. He also is facing a misdemeanor count of possession of drug abuse instruments.

He remains in the Mahoning County jail on $20,000 bond.

According to a police report, the homeowner arrived around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at his Mahoning Avenue home. He found his refrigerator and kitchen cabinets open and a man, wearing only underwear and a basketball jersey, in the house.

The resident told police the man claimed to be part of a cleaning service, but the resident, who lives alone, did not hire cleaners, the report states.

The report states the resident found clothes, including shoes and jeans, that were not his scattered around the house. The homeowner also told police he found an empty yogurt container that was full before he left and a tub of ice cream in the microwave that had been in his freezer.

Behind the house, police found a blue cart containing personal belongings, including a backpack that contained four syringes and a debit card with the intruder’s name on it, the report states. Also in the cart was a jacket, in which police found a plastic bag with a white crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, the report states.
