WARREN -- A Liberty man this week pleaded guilty to a robbery charge in a heist at a cash express store in the township.
Randy L. Jamison, 47, of Green Acres Drive, was sentenced by visiting Judge Gary Yost to a prison term of four to six years. Jamison pleaded guilty Monday to a second-degree felony charge, in which he could have received as many as eight years in prison.
Officers were called to Ace Cash Express on Belmont Avenue just after 4 p.m. Sept. 27 for the reported robbery, according to a police report. Reports said the suspect had threatened to blow up the place if he didn't get the money.
Assistant Prosecutor Charles Morrow, however, said no bomb was involved in the incident. Morrow said the suspect held a cellphone that had a wire sticking out of it to make it look like an explosive.
Morrow said Jamison was identified by the clerk as the robber.
Jamison could face additional prison time as the case violated his probation for a federal robbery conviction. Reports show on May 29, 2015, Jamison robbed the Huntington Bank in downtown Youngstown of about $2,248. He was sentenced in 2016 to 71 months in a federal prison for the Huntington Bank robbery. In August 2021, a federal judge ordered him to pay restitution of $2,248 to the bank.
Records show that Jamison also served a 10-year sentence for a 2007 aggravated robbery in Mahoning County and was released in 2017.
Federal court records show the probation violation for Jamison is being assigned to Magistrate Jonathan Greenberg of the U.S. Northern Ohio District Court. Jamison is in federal custody.
