Gunfire kills 1 in Youngstown

Victim shot at Logan Avenue gas station, taken to police station

YOUNGSTOWN — One person died in a shooting at the Logan Gas Mart on Logan Avenue on the lower North Side Friday night.

The person was driven to the Youngstown Police Department, where officers and medical personnel provided care.

The activity in front of the police station resulted in Boardman Street being blocked off near the police station, but Capt. Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Department’s Detective Division stated in a press release that the public was in no danger, and the situation was “under control and being actively investigated.”

Simon planned to release more information late Friday, he stated.

The shooting death is Youngstown’s 17th homicide of the year. The most recent one before this was the July 31 slaying of Daniel Peek on East Florida Avenue. John Morgan is facing charges in his death.

On Aug. 20, gunshots occurred in the 2200 block of Logan Avenue, but no one was injured. That incident involved three women, one from Youngstown, one from Farrell, Pa., and one from Liberty.

Starting at $3.23/week.
