Girard to post 1-way signs near 2 schools

GIRARD — City and school officials are planning to have one-way signs posted on streets by Prospect Elementary and Girard Intermediate schools to help traffic flow more easily on school-day mornings and afternoons when children are being dropped off and picked up.

Safety-Service Director Jerry Lambert said one-way signs will be posted by the schools to indicate certain streets will be one way only between 7 and 9 a.m. and 2 and 4 p.m. weekdays.

Lambert said plans are to have Prospect Street between Wellman and Elruth avenues, Elruth between Prospect and Forsythe, and Forsythe between Prospect and Wellman as one-way only during the designated hours. He said Wellman will remain two ways.

Lambert said the goal is to help prevent traffic congestion, which happened last school year. Lambert is meeting with Schools Superintendent Bryan O’Hara, and city street police and fire officials today to discuss what is planned.
