Buggies get annual cleaning
Western Reserve Village Foundation trustees and volunteers cleared out the carriage barn at the Canfield Fairgrounds on Sunday for the annual pre-fair cleaning. The barn floor was cleaned and artifacts dusted. Each carriage was hand-cleaned and waxed to ensure that they look good for the 2022 Canfield Fair, Aug. 31 through Sept. 5. The barn houses a collection of historic buggies and specialty wagons. Among the wagons and buggies on display are a hearse, ice wagon, dairy wagon and a popcorn vending wagon.
Foundation Trustee Bill Davis cleans around the dairy wagon that represents how dairy products were delivered in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It is one of a large collection in a free exhibit at the Canfield Fair.
Trustee Carrie Burkey removes the dust from the Western Reserve Village Carriage Barn’s “shooting brake” vehicle, a horse-drawn wagon used to transport shooting parties with their equipment and game.
