Doug Jones, a former Democratic senator from Alabama, will headline an Oct. 8 fundraiser for the Mahoning County Democratic Party.
The event is dubbed an "old-fashioned, family-friendly" barbecue and bonfire. The event's location hasn't been announced.
"The goal is to do something different," Mahoning Democratic Chairman Christopher Anderson said. "I'm tired of suit-and-tie fundraisers. I understand them, but these are a lot more fun. We're going to have a barbecue and bonfire with ice cream and bounce houses for kids."
Tickets cost $75 for adults with no admission cost for children. Also, a private reception with Jones, which includes two tickets to the barbecue, is $450.
Tickets are available online at secure.act blue.com/donate/mcdpdougjones.
Jones was elected in 2017 to the U.S. Senate in a special election in heavily Republican Alabama, beating Roy Moore, the GOP candidate who was alleged to have sexually assaulted several women, by 2 percent. When Jones ran for a full term in 2020, he lost by more than 20 percent to Republican Tommy Tuberville, a former Auburn University football coach.
Last January, President Joe Biden selected Jones to assist with the successful nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court.
