YOUNGSTOWN -- A 32-year-old woman who fought paramedics as she was being revived from an overdose earlier this week was charged by Youngstown police with two counts of assault on an EMS provider, according to Youngstown Municipal Court records.
The charges against Brittany Taylor are fourth-degree felonies. An arraignment date has not been set.
Meanwhile, Taylor's roommate, Antwanisha Jones, 31, of West Ravenwood Avenue, faces the same assault on an EMS worker charge. She was to be arraigned Friday, according to court records.
According to a police report, two medics were called about 4 a.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of West Ravenwood Avenue to revive an overdose victim with Narcan, the drug that reverses the effects of opioids. When the woman awakened in a "wobbly" state, the report states she lashed out at one of the paramedics, grabbing her by the throat. In the ensuing struggle, Jones is accused of jumping on a paramedic's back, punching her in the head and knocking off her glasses. One paramedic had scratches on her face and neck, and a bruise on her arm, the report states.
Taylor, meanwhile, continued to struggle as she was being taken to the hospital by another set of paramedics and had to be put in restraints, according to the report.
Four children were in the home at the time of the incident, according to the report.
Jail records show Jones still in custody as of Friday morning, while Taylor had not been arrested.
