29-year-old indicted on attempted murder

YOUNGSTOWN — Jawon L. Williams, 29, was indicted Thursday on charges of attempted murder, felonious assault and possessing weapons while not allowed in a May 5 incident, in which he is accused of shooting another man in the face on the South Side.

Police were called to the 800 block of East Florida Avenue, where a man was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment of what investigators said was a superficial wound to the face. The victim was not cooperative with officers, according to a police report.

Williams was booked into the Mahoning County jail May 25 on a felonious assault charge and remains there.

Also indicted was Brian K. Bigsby, 51, on three counts of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition.

He was arrested April 5 for an offense that took place near North Schenley Avenue and Connecticut Avenue on the West Side, police said. Officers responded to a call regarding the rape of a juvenile. The victim was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Police found and detained Bigsby in the 600 block of North Hazelwood Avenue. The alleged rapes took place April 2 to April 4, according to Bigsby’s indictment.

Others indicted are:

• Joseph W. Ward, 32, Woodworth Road, North Lima, grand theft and falsification;

• Jessie Riffle, 31, Clermont Drive, vandalism, tampering with coin machines, possessing criminal tools and petty theft;

• Nicholas D. Gibson, 32, Trumbull County jail, vandalism, tampering with coin machines, possessing criminal tools and petty theft;

• Rommie L. Johnson, 25, East Judson Avenue, permitting drug abuse;

• Brent L. Herman, 46, Idaho Road, Austintown, two counts of tampering with coin machines and one count of possessing criminal tools;

• William E. Storch III, 36, Huron, breaking and entering and grand theft when the property is a firearm;

• Vincent D. Marbly, 57, Mahoning County jail, tampering with evidence and cocaine possession;

• Shaun C. Davis, 18, Mahoning County jail, illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, cocaine possession, fentanyl-related compound possession, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and obstructing official business;

• Rayshawn D. Hall, 21, Norwood Avenue, possessing weapons while not allowed, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and obstructing official business;

• Dwayne L. Thomas, 18, Scioto Street, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and obstructing official business;

• Braylon W. Black, 27, Mahoning County jail, obstructing official business and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Noah J. Thompson, 23, Patricia Avenue, domestic violence;

• Kevin J. Jefferson, 42, North Belle Vista Avenue, felonious assault;

• Avery L. Gales, 29, Hillman Street, tampering with evidence, fentanyl-related compound possession and aggravated drug possession.
