Man pleads guilty to assault, abduction, gun, drug charges
WARREN — A 27-year-old Liberty man pleaded guilty Tuesday before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Logan on charges of felonious assault, abduction, improperly handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, having weapons under disability and one count of trafficking in cocaine.
Brian C. Butler, of Royal Arms Drive, could face at least 18 years in prison if the sentences are consecutive. Butler and the court are waiting for a pre-sentencing investigation to be completed by probation officers.
He was indicted in August after a May arrest by Liberty police that culminated in a standoff in Youngstown.
The assault charge is based on an incident that occurred in the 900 block of Royal Arms Drive, shortly after 11 p.m. May 23, 2021, according to a police report. The victim of the assault filed a police report on May 24.
Liberty police were trying to arrest Butler when they found him on the roof of a house at Kimmel and Scioto streets on Youngstown’s East Side. Authorities tracked him to the home, and he refused to come down. The report states Butler was “swearing and causing an issue.” He stayed on the roof for three hours before he climbed down and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment.
Police recovered a handgun and a stolen car during the arrest.
