YOUNGSTOWN -- Eddie Bryant Jr., who was in jail in Trumbull County earlier this week on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge and also facing a 2021 involuntary manslaughter charge in Youngstown, is free on bond on the misdemeanor -- and no longer charged with involuntary manslaughter.
A Mahoning County grand jury declined Thursday to indict Bryant, 20, on the involuntary manslaughter, which was related to the June 18, 2021, shooting death of Cornell L. Kennedy Jr., 18, on Seneca Street on the North Side.
After the domestic violence charge was filed against Bryant because of an incident last Saturday, Bob Creager of Fast Bob's Bail Bonding of Warren filed a letter with Judge Maureen Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on Monday, asking her to revoke Bryant's $250,000 bond in Mahoning County based on the details of the alleged domestic violence.
Creager also asked that his bonding company be released from the bond it issued to Bryant and "relieved" of "any and all liabilities" in regard to the Mahoning County case.
Sweeney did not act on the letter. Then on Thursday, Creager wrote a second letter to the judge, this time withdrawing his request for Bryant's bond to be revoked. Creager said he discovered that the new domestic violence charge was "not validated."
Bryant was released from the Trumbull County jail Monday evening, and a no-contact order from Judge Thomas Gysegem of Warren Municipal Court on the domestic violence charge was eliminated Tuesday at the request of the alleged victim, according to court records.
