Man gets four years in prison

YOUNGSTOWN — Ian D. Thomas, 31, of Cameron Avenue, was sentenced to four years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to eight charges related to three separate incidents dating back to June 8, 2021, in Boardman and Youngstown.

Thomas pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in two of the cases. Those charges each carried up to a three-year prison sentence. One was in Boardman on March 6 and one in was in Youngstown on June 8, 2021.

But he also pleaded guilty to five drug charges related to a Sept. 11, 2021, incident. Those convictions are for trafficking and possessing multiple types of drugs and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia. And he pleaded guilty to another drug charge related to an incident June 8, 2021, in Youngstown.

Judge Anthony Donofrio sentenced Thomas, who is eligible to be released from prison after serving two of the four years. He also gets credit for several months already served in the Mahoning County jail awaiting trial.
