County reports 2 fatal crashes

Two people died Sunday and Monday on Mahoning County roadways, the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol say.

On Monday night, a farm tractor accident on Lisbon Road in Goshen Township killed Michael E. Kenney, 62, of Canfield.

Kenney was traveling south on Lisbon Road, a quarter mile south of Middletown Road, about 8:45 p.m. on a 1940 Minneapolis Moline tractor pulling a trailer hauling round hay bales when the trailer became unstable, triggering an equipment failure, causing the trailer to separate and overturn, the Ohio State Highway Patrol stated in a news release.

Kenney was thrown off the tractor and the trailer landed on top of him, the patrol reported.

Green Township ambulance personnel took Kenney to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Goshen Township police and Green Township Fire and EMS assisted on the scene.

About 1 a.m. Sunday, Cody Harris, 27, was killed when his motorcycle hit a sport utility vehicle at Market and Henry streets a short distance south of downtown.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office stated in a news release that it was notified by the Youngstown Police Department at 1:45 a.m. that Harris had been killed.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the report. The crash remains under investigation by Youngstown police and the coroner’s office, the release states.
