WARREN — A Hubbard woman pleaded guilty Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on charges connected to an Aug. 27, 2021, car-pedestrian fatality on Sampson Road in Liberty that killed her 35-year-old partner, who was a corrections officer.

Alexandria R. Morales, 27, of East Liberty Street, Hubbard, was in orange coveralls as she appeared with attorney John Juhasz to plead guilty on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Morales will remain jailed after her bond was revoked because she couldn’t follow the terms of her electronically monitored house arrest, court officials said.

Morales will be sentenced by Judge Andrew D. Logan after she submits to a background investigation prepared by probation officers.

The defendant faces a possible prison term of two to 12 years and a lifetime driver’s license suspension.

The guilty pleas offset a potential jury trial that was scheduled to start June 6 in Logan’s courtroom.

According to police reports, Morales and her partner, Amanda Markowitz, 35, were arguing about Morales leaving the Sampson Road home about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 27. As Morales was trying to leave in her Buick, the report states, her car ran over Markowitz as she was standing in the driveway.

Both women were suspected to be intoxicated at the time, a 911 report showed. According to prosecutors Morales’ blood-alcohol contest tested at 0.195, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 for driving in Ohio.

Markowitz suffered massive head injuries, according to the report. A witness who had called 911 told police that everyone was fighting, and when she went inside to get her cellphone, the fatal accident occurred, the report states.

Markowitz, who was a corrections officer at the Lawrence, Pa., County Jail, was pronounced dead after being taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
