Crash kills 2 on Tippecanoe

BOARDMAN — The Canfield Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a double fatal one-car crash early Thursday on Tippecanoe Road, just south of McCarty Drive.

According to a news release from the patrol, passenger Charles Mitchell, 21, of Youngstown, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 21-year-old Terrell Brown of Youngstown later died from his injuries at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

According to the report, Brown was driving a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicle heading south on Tippecanoe Road. It traveled off the right side of the road, went airborne and struck a tree around 2:45 a.m. Thursday.

The Mercedes sustained heavy damage to the entire vehicle.

The patrol reported neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, and troopers believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

The road was closed for a time Thursday morning as investigators cleared the wreckage and studied the scene.
