Shooting marks seventh homicide

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 42-year-old man was found dead about 11 p.m. Sunday in an apartment in the 2400 block of Shirley Road, a police report states.

His death is the seventh homicide in the city during 2022.

After being called to assist ambulance responders with a deceased man, police realized the man had been shot several times and had multiple wounds.

A crime scene was set up and evidence was recovered at the scene, according to the report. Police also spoke with witnesses in the area of Shirley Road and Homewood Avenue.

Police did not give the name of the man who was found in an upstairs apartment of the two-story brick building, which Realtor websites show to be almost 100 years old.

Detectives and the Mahoning County Coroner's Office had investigated the crime through the night and into Monday morning, the report states. Crime tape was not there as the apartment building was void of any activity by 10 a.m. Monday.
