POLAND — A group of high school students managed to collect well over 200 bags of donated clothing in less than two weeks.

The Poland Seminary Junior Senior High School Leadership Club hosted its first clothing drive for the Salvation Army, but based on its obvious success, the group’s leaders believe it will become an annual event.

“This is the first time the Leadership Club has done something like this, but given its success, we want to make this an annual thing, maybe even continuing after we graduate,” Logan Flament, a junior, said.

Logan, along with fellow juniors Dennis McCully and Drake Trolio, spearheaded the drive, but had a few helping hands from other club members — Matthew Farkas, Andrew Slaven, Ella Gaffney, Ben Harrell and Lauren Hymes — as they spent their first few hours of spring break lugging trash bags and old shopping bags into a van they rented.

“It was really nice to see everyone get together and work together here,” Logan said.

The students collected clothing from both the school and the community, both of which were extremely generous, according to Logan and Dennis.

“We’re very satisfied, because at the same time, it’s something for people who need it and there’s truly no amount or number that you can put to it,” Dennis said. “As long as we’re helping others, we’re very happy.”
