Initial call for dead twins was drug OD

Police find spent bullet shell casings in Powers Way home

YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown police report released Wednesday says when police were alerted to a problem at a home on Powers Way on Monday, they were told the situation might be a drug overdose death involving one man.

But when officers arrived, they found two men deceased in the home — one downstairs and one upstairs. Patrol officers called for detectives and crime scene investigators and also the Mahoning County Dog Warden’s office to handle two dogs in the home.

The two victims were later identified as twins John F. and Michael P. Trolio, 40, who had been shot. The initial call to 911 was made at 10:44 a.m.

Detectives collected several spent bullet shell casings from the home, the report states. Family members at the scene secured the dogs.

A section of the report for suspects lists “unknown.” If confirmed to be homicides, they will be the fourth and fifth of the year in the city.

A family member discovered the scene when he or she went to check on the home, which is in the 3300 block of Powers Way on the South Side, police said.
