60 shots fired at East Side house

YOUNGSTOWN — Although city police detectives had a fatal shooting that also injured a child and a woman and a gas station shooting to follow up on Wednesday, other gun-related crimes also broke out.

The worst of these appears to have been gunfire on South Jackson Street on the East Side, where gunfire hit four houses at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

No one was injured in any of the gunfire; or in gunfire on Wilson Avenue and Center Street on the East Side involving a vehicle at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday; or at a house on East Auburndale Avenue on the South Side at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday.

The four houses on South Jackson Street are close to one another in the 300 block and on the same side of the street.

Police collected 24 bullet shell casings of one kind, 23 of another kind that is typically used in an assault rifle and 12 shell casings from another caliber of weapon, totaling 59 casings, police said.

All of the casings were within about 10 feet of one another.

One home was hit at least five times through the front bedroom window, where a resident was sleeping. A vehicle also was struck with bullets.

Another resident said his home was struck at least seven times. It appeared that two bullets traveled through the house and hit a vehicle.

Another resident’s home was hit at least eight times throughout the front of the house and a bullet was found in the home. Yet another resident reported his home being hit once in the upstairs area.

A silver or tan older sport utility vehicle was seen leaving the area, one of the residents reported. Another person said they saw a white older Oldsmobile leaving area after the gunfire.

WILSON AVENUE

A person drove to the Campbell Police Department to talk to police about gunfire hitting their car at Wilson Avenue and Center Street at 3:32 p.m. Tuesday.

A person in a BMW fired six shots at the victim’s car, which also contained a child. The victim was traveling east on Wilson Avenue. At the intersection, the BMW’s rear driver side window came down and a man wearing a mask fired four to six times, the report said.

The victim pulled into a business to escape the gunfire, and the assault vehicle followed. An officer saw a bullet hole in the windshield of the victim’s Range Rover near the driver’s door, and one on the hood. An officer found four spent bullet shell casings in the area where the victim said the shooting took place.

EAST AUBURNDALE

At 11:17 p.m. Tuesday, a person’s home in the 100 block of East Auburndale Avenue was hit by gunfire. The victim reported hearing lots of gunfire and hearing bullets come through the window of the home.

An officer saw several bullet holes in the front window of the home and several other locations in the front of the house. The resident had no idea who would have done it.
