Man charged with two counts of rape

Could face over 20 years in prison if convicted

YOUNGSTOWN — Franklin C. Herns, 24, of Sunshine Avenue, was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury Thursday on two counts of rape, accusing him of compelling another person to engage in sexual conduct by use of force or threat of force.

The offenses took place last June, according to his indictment. If convicted, he could get more than 20 years in prison.

The grand jury also indicted Anthony J. Carson, 24, of Brandon Avenue in Struthers, on charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, corrupting another with drugs, fentanyl related compound trafficking, fentanyl related compound possession and cocaine possession.

His indictments allege he caused the death of a man, 31, April 23, 2021, as a result of Carson committing or attempting to commit the corrupting and trafficking offenses. All of the offenses are alleged to have taken place on the same date.

The manslaughter, homicide and corrupting charges are related to the death of the same man.

Meanwhile, Ashley V. Williams, 33, Compass West Drive, Austintown, was indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering.

The offenses relates to the death of her 2-month-old son on July 22, 2021.

She is accused of causing the boy’s death as the “proximate result” of Williams committing child endangering, according to her indictment.

Others indicted are:

• Montand L. Mosley, 18, Dogwood Lane, receiving stolen property, contributing to the unruliness and delinquency of a child and obstructing official business;

• Ke’Twan L. Boudrey, 18, North Pearl Street, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle;

• Jahbazz R. Fountain, 20, Ridge Avenue, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and obstructing official business;

• Sean L. Rogers, 27, Chapel Lane, Campbell, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle;

• Thomas M. Weidner, 40, John White Road, Hubbard, designing a vehicle with a hidden compartment used to transport a controlled substance, aggravated drug possession, fentanyl related compound possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

• Joseph E. Varkonyi, 28, Coral Sea Drive, burglary;

• Ashley R. Clark, 32, Mahoning County jail, burglary;

• Michael H. Tomlin, 38, Mahoning County jail, breaking and entering, theft and possessing criminal tools;

• Mark M. Mueller, 47, Osborne Avenue, failure to provide a change of address;

• Sanjuan Smith, 53, Williams Avenue, failure to verify address;

• Dashawn K. Hood, 27, Gibbs Avenue, Canton, failure to register and failure to provide notice of change of address.
