WARREN -- A Liberty Township man on Monday pleaded guilty to felony charges connected to a Girard home invasion in the summer of 2021.

Khaz Sallaz, 22, of Oriel Rogers Road, Liberty Township, was convicted of first-degree aggravated burgalry and second-degree felonious assault with a deadly weapon felonies. Sallaz will be sentenced in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court after he submits to a background investigation conducted by probation officers.

The plea hearing headed off a potential jury trial that was set for May 16 in Judge Peter J. Kontos' courtroom.

Sallaz could face indefinite prison terms.

According to prosecutors, Girard police investigated a home invasion in the city on July 7, 2021, where a man broke in to a woman's home, stole a firearm that was present there and pointed it at the homeowner. There were no injuries, but prosecutors said the victim was an ex-girlfriend.

Sallaz was arrested on a warrant on Nov. 1, 2021, and shortly thereafter jail records show he had posted a $25,000 bond, which was continued after Monday's hearing.
