Trumbull approves bridge inspections

WARREN — Some 377 bridges in Trumbull County will be inspected in 2022 under a contract with MS Consultants Inc. of Youngstown worth $218,051.

Trumbull County commissioners earlier this week concurred with the scheduled work that was negotiated in a three-year contract awarded last year to the professional engineering services firm. The inspection work will continue in 2023, according to terms of the contract.

Commissioners also announced that the 2022 annual Trumbull County Engineers dinner meeting will be 6 p.m. April 6 at DiLucia’s Banquet and Catering facility on Elm Road NE. The meeting is open to the public and government officials. Engineer Randy Smith and his staff will discuss upcoming road and bridge repair and maintenance projects. The money for the dinner will be paid from the highway engineer’s fund.

In other action at the board’s regular meeting this week, commissioners:

• Approved grant applications for the State Road, Champion Township, phase 2 sanitary sewer improvement project. Anticipated funding for the $1.38 million project will come from the Ohio Public Works Commission grant ($250,000); the federal Appalachian Regional Commission grant ($250,000) and the Ohio EPA water pollution control zero percent loan fund ($882,360).

• Authorized the purchase of two Ford SUVs from Montrose Ford Inc. of Fairlawn for use by the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program (NEOCAP) in the total amount of $29,341. NEOCAP is using two grants, including one from the Trumbull County Day Reporting Center, to purchase the vehicles through the state procurement program.
