Six local students nominated to national military academies

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Howland, announced Sunday that six local students have been nominated to attend national military academies.

“This group represents some of Ohio’s most skilled, talented and accomplished students,” Ryan said. “Our service academies will develop them into leaders not only for our military, but for our world. Our future is bright in their hands, and I am grateful to have the privilege to nominate them. I have no doubt they will make our country proud.”

Each nominee completed an application and interviewed with the 13th District Nomination Committee, and the group was honored by Ryan at a ceremony Feb. 9 at the Trumbull County Veterans Services Commission. The nominees are:

• Dante Byrne, son of Gordon and Lydia Byrne, was nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He attends Girard High School.

• Grace Campbell, daughter of John and Shanon Campbell, was nominated to the United States Naval Academy. She attends Ursuline High School.

• Spencer Feeley, son of Brian and June Feeley, was nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point. She attends Kent State University.

• Catherine Gajski, daughter of Francis and Christine Gajski, was nominated to the United Sates Naval Academy. She attends Howland High School.

• Michael Mauro, son of Michael and Trisha Mauro, was nominated to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He attends Warren JFK High School.

• Carter Burnett, son of Michael and Stephanie Burnett, was nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy. He attends Badger High School in Kinsman and Youngstown State University.
