Youngstown police find man shot to death on Market Street

YOUNGSTOWN — The city recorded its second homicide of the year when a man was found shot to death Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Market Street and East Philadelphia Avenue on the South Side.

According to a news release from the Youngstown Police Department, officers responded to the area around 1:20 p.m. after a call to 911 about a vehicle that went onto the sidewalk that had multiple bullet holes in it.

Officers found a dead man in the driver’s seat who had been shot.

The Youngstown Police Department detective division and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are investigating. The victim’s name has not been released, but police said he is a 20-year-old black man.

Anyone with information on the shooting can call 330-746-CLUE. Callers may remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Witnesses also may call the YPD tip line at 330-742-8929.

The first homicide victim of the year was 14-year-old Landon Lockhart who was discovered dead in a wooded area off North Truesdale Avenue on the East Side.
