Woman gets 84 months for role in meth ring

A Portage County resident, who is incarcerated on state drug convictions, on Thursday was given an 84-month federal sentence for her involvement in a local methamphetamine trafficking ring.

U.S. Judge Donald C. Nugent sentenced Jaclyn Szachury during a video hearing in Northern Ohio District Court. Szachury, 35, pleaded guilty Oct. 1 to a federal charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. She also was ordered to attend a 500-hour residential drug abuse program. Szachury will be placed at the federal prison in Danbury, Conn., and is eligible for four years of supervised release.

The sentence will be concurrent to a 39-month sentence Szachury is serving at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville for drug trafficking and drug possession convictions in Portage and Summit counties.

Szachury, whose last known address was on Maryland Street in Aurora, was among six people indicted in the drug conspiracy where they were accused of working together to distribute methamphetamine in communities throughout northern Ohio.

Others involved in the case are:

• Michael A. Lee, 30, an inmate at Grafton Correctional Institution in Lorain County, who also pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges last October. He is expected to be sentenced Jan. 31 in federal court;

• Timothy M. Lowery, 33, of Warren, who was given an 11-year sentence last fall as well as a recommended 500-hour residential drug rehab program after his release.

Lowery in July pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute meth and possession of an unregistered firearm. As part of the plea deal, Lowery had to forfeit an Iver Johnson, homemade 16-gauge weapon made from a shotgun with a barrel of less than 18 inches. Nugent also assessed a special court cost of $300 to the defendant. Also, the indictment states Lowery must forfeit $4,300 in seized cash;

• Neil R. Dye, 37, an inmate housed at the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Warren, in October received a 61-month sentence after pleading last summer to the conspiracy count in the indictment. Nugent made Dye’s sentence concurrent with a three-year state prison term he received in January 2020 on drug-trafficking offenses in Portage County;

• Also in the fall, Mary E. Clearwater, 40, of Westgate Drive in Braceville, was given a 72-month prison sentence and Courtney P. Wilson, 30, of Youngstown, was sentenced to 30 months in a federal prison. Both women pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, while Wilson also pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of meth.

The indictment names offenses committed between July 8, 2019, and Dec. 3, 2020. The six were accused of working together to distribute methamphetamine in communities throughout northern Ohio. As part of the drug ring, Dye and Szachury are accused of providing meth to Clearwater, who then handed it off to Lee, Wilson and Lowery for distribution throughout the region. At least 500 grams of the drug were involved, officials say. On several occasions, the group is accused of selling meth to confidential FBI sources, the indictment states.
