South Side homicide victim named

YOUNGSTOWN — City police have identified the victim in what appears to be Youngstown’s latest homicide that occurred Saturday afternoon in the area of Market Street and East Philadelphia Avenue.

According to a Monday news release, the victim is identified as Darnell N. Jackson, 20.

Officers found a vehicle that drove onto the sidewalk at the intersection on Saturday. The vehicle had multiple bullet holes in it, and officers discovered a dead man in the driver’s seat, police said.

According to Lt. Mohammad Awad, no further information is available as of Monday afternoon. The department’s crime unit and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office is continuing its investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to call 330-746-CLUE or the police tip line at 330-742-8929. Callers will remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward if information given leads to an arrest.

Jackson is the second homicide victim of 2022 in Youngstown. The first homicide victim was 14-year-old Landon Lockhard whose body was discovered Jan. 13 in woods off North Truesdale Avenue on the East Side.
