Man accused of pushing boy out of car and running over his foot

YOUNGSTOWN — A 30-year-old woman called police to her apartment Wednesday for a dispute involving her boyfriend that resulted in a child, 6, having his foot run over by a car.

The woman told police her boyfriend is the father of her child, and she is nine months pregnant.

She said she had removed the boyfriend from the home in the 1700 block of Sheehy Street on the East Side on Tuesday because she feared for her life.

But she had gone to pick him up Wednesday from a home on Fairgreen Avenue to take him to the apartment to get his things. She said she felt it would be OK because he was acting “civilly.”

But when she pulled into her driveway on Sheehy, the man “snatched the key from the ignition,” a police report states.

“She asked him to give the key back, at which time he stated, ‘Checkmate, (expletive).’ He then got into the driver seat and pulled away in her 2018 gray Ford Escape,” the police report states.

The woman’s son, was in the back seat at the time.

As the man pulled away, the woman chased after the vehicle. The man turned down a street and then stopped the vehicle and “shoved” the boy out “before driving off again. When (the man) drove off, he ran over (the boy’s) foot,” the report states.

When police arrived, they were told the boy’s foot did not appear to be broken, and his mother refused to have him transported to the hospital.

As of Thursday, police apparently have not filed any charges against the man. The police report states that they are investigating the incident as a potential felonious assault, but it is “domestic in nature due to (the man) residing” at the home.
