Mahoning judge delays murder trial for two men

YOUNGSTOWN — The trial of two men charged with killing a man, his 3-month-old son and the child’s mother in November 2019 was postponed a day because of the snowy weather.

Mahoning County court officials said the snow that had already fallen and a forecast of more on the way caused the decision to allow potential jurors to stay home Monday morning.

The trial of Shainquon Sharpe, 25, of Columbus, and Taquashon Ray, 25, of Youngstown, is now scheduled to begin today before Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Maureen Sweeney.

The two men are charged with multiple counts of aggravated murder, murder, tampering with evidence and other offenses. The slayings occurred at a South Side home. If convicted of aggravated murder, Sharpe and Ray could get a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
