Judge refuses early release for slain boy’s mom

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County judge on Monday denied early release from prison to the mother of a Struthers boy killed by her boyfriend.

Common Pleas Judge R. Scott Krichbaum denied judicial release to Shain Widdersheim, 42, who the judge sentenced in September 2013 to 15 years in prison on four charges of endangering children and one count of obstructing justice.

Widdersheim was accused of covering up the abuse of Teddy Foltz, 14, who died Jan. 26, 2012, in a hospital five days after being beaten by Widdersheim’s boyfriend, Zaryl Bush. The last of the two child-endangering counts were related to her twin sons who survived.

Bush, 52, was sentenced in June 2013 to 33 years to life in prison.

Widdersheim has an expected date of Dec. 30, 2027, to leave prison, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

At her sentencing, Widdersheim said she lied to cover up the beatings because she was afraid of Bush. At the time, Krichbaum told her: “Mother is a sacred title no one deserves to call you.”

In the motion for judicial release filed by her attorney James Gentile, Widdersheim stated abuse during her childhood has prevented her from making good decisions.
