Four-vehicle crash kills Beloit man

SMITH TOWNSHIP — Samuel Grenawalt, 89, of Beloit, was killed in a four-vehicle chain reaction crash on state Route 165 north of U.S. Route 62 at 8:44 p.m. Friday. The location is just south of Beloit.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post reported that Greenawalt was in a 2018 Chevrolet that was not able to stop in time to avoid hitting the back of a car stopped along Route 165.

Greenawalt’s car hit the back of a Honda driven by a juvenile from Alliance, which was behind a 2015 Chrysler driven by John Zamarelli, 57, of Beloit, that was also stopped on Route 165.

The Honda was forced into the Chrysler. A Lexus driven by a juvenile from Alliance was unable to stop and struck the rear of the Chevrolet.

Greenawalt was transported from the scene to Alliance Hospital and later transferred to Aultman Hospital in Canton, where he died. Greenawalt was not wearing a seatbelt. All other passengers and drivers were wearing seatbelts, and none of those individuals reported any injuries, the patrol stated in a press release.
