Vehicle chase in Austintown leads to drug arrests

AUSTINTOWN — Police pursuit of a green 2000 Honda Civic on Interstate 80 west of state Route 46 about 1 a.m. Monday resulted in two arrests.

The vehicle was being driven by Kevin Thompson, 40, of Brookfield, who was accompanied by passanger Natalia Springer, 34, of Warren, according to the police report.

A registration check on a vehicle in the Sheetz parking lot, Canfield Niles Road, revealed the registration expired Nov. 26. The vehicle left the lot and had a defective rear light. An officer attempted a traffic stop, but the car sped up and eventually stopped at the Ohio Turnpike toll booths.

Both Springer and Thompson were ordered out at gunpoint. Springer was found to have warrants out of Mentor on charges of aggravated possession of drugs and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Thompson had an invalid license and several drug-related warrants for his arrest in Trumbull County. Springer was transported to Mentor police and Thompson to Warren police.

Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found during a search of the vehicle. The police report states additional charges are pending.
