Robber gets 10 years for 2018 heist

Also ordered to pay $14K in restitution to Premier Bank

A man serving state and federal prison terms in connection to a 2019 bank robbery in Liberty was given Tuesday a concurrent 10-year, one-month federal prison term for his part in a Nov. 6, 2018, robbery of the Lincoln Knolls Home Savings Bank.

Dabraylin Hawkins, 26, who last gave authorities a Duncan Lane, Youngstown, address appeared via video Tuesday before U.S. Judge Donald Nugent of the Northern Ohio District Court in Cleveland.

Nugent also ordered for Hawkins a five-year post-release supervision as well as $14,000 in restitution to Premier Bank, the new owners of Home Savings. Hawkins was assessed a special court cost of $200, court records show.

Hawkins, who is housed in North Central Correctional Institution in Marion, was accused of robbing the Lincoln Knolls bank branch in fall 2018. Police reports state an armed man demanded cash and fled the bank. Authorities searched the area but could not find him.

In March 2020, Hawkins pleaded guilty before a Trumbull County Common Pleas Court judge to charges connected to a 2019 robbery of the Liberty Home Savings. In that incident, Hawkins was shot in his lower body in a gunfight with an off-duty Liberty police officer, who was working a side job at the bank. The bank robber managed to escape but later was arrested in the parking lot of a nearby Italian cafe.

Hawkins was sentenced concurrently to 21 to 26 1/2 years in state prison as well as a 14-year federal term for that Liberty robbery.
