Police probing ‘negligent homicide’
Body of 19-year-old man found on city’s East Side

YOUNGSTOWN -- City police detectives are investigating what they call a "negligent homicide" that happened about 11:30 p.m. Monday at a home in the 200 block of Beechwood Drive on the East Side.
A 19-year-old man was found inside the residence with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
The Mahoning County Coroner's Office was called to investigate and no identification of the victim had been given by Tuesday afternoon, according to police Capt. Jason Simon.
Detectives have been terming the incident as an accidental shooting but are consulting the prosecutor's office to see if any charges will be filed.
"There was evidence that there may have been gun play that went awry," Simon said, noting more details may be forthcoming.
If the coroner rules the death a homicide, it would be the 31st in the city this year.
On Tuesday morning, police detectives were investigating shots fired outside a home in the 600 block of Covington Street on the North Side.
A call came into police saying that someone reported being shot at.
Police officers responded shortly after 10 a.m. to the residence, where investigators found one live round on the front sidewalk leading up to the two-story home.
Simon said the alleged victim, who was not shot, had left the scene, but he did not know if on foot or by vehicle. Police officers at the scene were said to be looking out for a Kia.
Investigators were questioning one man inside a police cruiser and a woman who lived at the rear of the residence.
