A former Warren woman involved in a federal drug investigation tied to a May 2020 Interstate 80 traffic stop was sentenced to 30 months in a federal prison.
Rosetta Cobb, 28, who now lives in Sharon, Pa., had pleaded guilty in August to a charge of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. This month, she was sentenced by U.S. Judge James S. Gwin of the Northern Ohio District Court, Cleveland.
Cobb also received credit for time already served and will get three years of supervised release after her sentence. She was also assessed $100 in court costs.
Cobb's defense attorney Stephen C. Newman had motioned for the judge to set a bond because she is neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community. The defense motion said she would be living with her mother in Sharon.
Court records show Cobb has been in Mahoning County jail since April 7, 2021.
The charge stems from a traffic stop about 1 a.m. May 12, 2020, conducted by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on a Nissan Altima traveling on Interstate 80 in Trumbull County.
Upon investigation, Cobb, who was a passenger in the Nissan, told troopers she was hiding on her person a large, black-taped rectangular object. The woman driver also produced a similar package for troopers, according to an affidavit prepared by a member of Trumbull TAG task force who was working for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
A test by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation revealed that the packages the two women had concealed contained more than 500 grams of substances containing cocaine, the affidavit states.
The case against the other woman, Andrea Datino, 30, of North Highland Avenue, Girard, ended in March with Datino being placed on two years of probation after being credited with time served, court records show.
