LIBERTY -- A 73-year-old Youngstown man was first taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and then to the Trumbull County jail on Tuesday after his Cadillac was involved in a rear-end accident with a Fed Ex delivery truck, near the Walmart entrance on Goldie Road.
When authorities searched the Cadillac they found two Cobra .22-caliber firearms, according to Trumbull County 911 reports.
Billy R. Jackson, of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, was arraigned Wednesday in Girard Municipal Court on two counts of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and two counts of carrying concealed weapons. Jackson also pleaded not guilty to a traffic charge of failure to maintain assured clear distance.
Girard Municipal Judge Jeffrey Adler set a preliminary hearing on all charges for Dec. 30.
Jackson had to be extracted from the accident shortly before 6 p.m. by Liberty fire department crews and taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to the 911 report. He later was booked into the county jail about 11:25 p.m. Records showed Jackson was released on a personal bond shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The 911 report stated the Cadillac sustained heavy front end damage and had to be put on the flatbed to be removed from the accident scene.
