Man gets 6 years for 6th OVI conviction

By Ed Runyan 1 min read

YOUNGSTOWN -- Andrew R. Lamparty, 45, of Cavalcade Drive in Austintown was sentenced to six years in prison Monday after pleading guilty in August to aggravated vehicular assault, felony operating a motor vehicle under the influence and a specification for repeat OVI offenders.

Handing down the sentence was Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Lamparty's sixth OVI took place about 6:22 p.m. April 6 on Mahoning Avenue at Idaho Road when Lamparty turned left into another vehicle that was traveling the other way on Mahoning, causing a crash that broke the femur bone of the other driver and also caused the other driver to suffer a foot injury.

Lamparty's air bag deployed during the crash. Lamparty refused to allow a blood test to determine his blood-alcohol level.

The repeat-OVI offender specification in Lamparty's indictment states that Lamparty had been convicted of OVI five times in the past 20 years, all of them in the Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown.

They included convictions in a 2020 case, 2009 case, 2006 case, 2004 case and 2001 case.
