By David Skolnick 2 min read

There were more COVID-19 deaths reported this month in Ohio than the five previous months combined.

There were 2,707 COVID-19 deaths in the state in October. The Ohio Department of Health provides COVID-19 death information on Tuesday and Fridays, so this will be the final reported number for October.

In comparison, there were 954 COVID-19 deaths reported in September in Ohio, 374 in August, 183 in July, 448 in June and 577 in May. Thatás 2,536 total deaths over the past five months.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in October is the most for a month in Ohio since February.

There were 572 deaths reported this week, which is more than the entire months of June, July or August.

Just because a COVID-19 death is reported in a particular month doesnát necessarily mean it happened in that month. Reported COVID-19 deaths are a lagging statistic, sometimes as much as a few months behind some actual deaths.

With two days left in October, it has the fifth-most COVID-19 cases for a month in Ohio since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

There were 125,518 cases reported for October in Ohio as of Friday, according to the ODH. Thatás an average of about 4,328 a day.

Ohio will see a decline in October from the 193,072 COVID-19 cases reported in September. That was the fourth-most for a month in the state during the pandemic.

The month with the most cases reported was last December with 279,317, followed by November with 205,366 cases and January with 195,412.

The fewest monthly cases reported in Ohio was last June at 9,390.

The state ä and the country ä started experiencing a spike in cases in late July caused by the delta variant largely among those who arenát vaccinating.

Ohio hasnát had a day with less than 1,000 cases since Aug. 2 and has been above 2,000 daily since Aug. 17.

Also, the Trumbull County Combined Health District will have COVID-19 vaccination clinics 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 6 at the Eastwood Mall in Niles.
