BOARDMAN -- Two women were arrested early Thursday after township police officers responded to gunfire reported at an apartment complex off Shields Road.
Several cruisers responded after dispatchers reported a woman firing a gun at another woman in the parking lot of the Forest Glen Estates complex shortly after 2 a.m.
Officers talked to the woman who admitted to firing a round in the air to "scare the other woman off," a police report states. She brought officers the Smith and Wesson Shield 9 mm firearm from her apartment.
The report states that a 37-year-old woman, identified as Brandy McLendon of Aberdeen Avenue, Youngstown, headed to the apartment to fight with her ex-boyfriend. The other woman, identified as Toye R. Larry, 23, of 38 Shields Road, Boardman, told officers she wanted to break up the fight.
According to the report, the two women were involved in a romantic triangle with a 29-year-old resident of the apartment complex.
McLendon told officers the other woman threatened to shoot up her car.
Officers found one spent shell casing in the yard of the complex, the report states.
Police charged Larry with inducing panic and aggravated menacing, and McLendon is charged with assault, the report states.
Court records showed both women were arraigned Thursday afternoon before Judge Joseph Houser of Mahoning County Court in Boardman. Larry had posted a $5,000 bond, while records show McLendon was free after posting a $1,250 bond.
