BOARDMAN -- A Youngstown man convicted of biting a Boardman police officer who was investigating an August 2020 assault has received an indefinite four- to six-year prison term.
Cinile Worsley, 21, appeared for a sentencing hearing Wednesday before Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Anthony Donofrio. Worsley on Aug. 6 pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault and one count of assault as three other charges -- domestic violence, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice -- were dismissed.
Court records show Worsley earlier this year had been ruled competent to stand trial, and the defendant agreed to a plea deal shortly before the scheduled Aug. 9 jury trial.
Mahoning County jail records state Worsley has been incarcerated since Aug. 12, 2020, when officers were dispatched to a domestic call at an apartment on West Boulevard. A police report states the caller reported a man she knows -- identified as Worsley -- was knocking on her door and tried to stab her.
Officers reported Worsley was uncooperative and resisted as they tried to place him in handcuffs. As he tried running, an officer used a stun weapon on Worsley, which "had minimal to no effect on" him.
At that point, he bit an officer on his right wrist, the report states. The officer was taken to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital for treatment.
Medical personnel and more police arrived, and Worsley was sedated due to his combative behavior, the report states.
Throughout the incident as officers tried to determine Worsley's identity and residency, he would respond that he was "the devil's hand," the report states.
After talking with neighbors, officers learned the man had been locked out of an apartment because of his strange behavior. A text among the friends and Worsley's girlfriend accused him of pulling the girlfriend out of the shower and trying to stab her.
A witness had told police Worsley had been texting strange messages over several days.
