One new death reported at Trumbull, Mahoning facilities

One additional death was reported this week at a Mahoning County long-term care facility, and one was reported at a Trumbull County facility. It brings the two-week total to five after going about six weeks without any deaths attributed to the virus.

The new totals are 79 for Columbiana County, 160 for Trumbull and 284 for Mahoning.

The number of COVID-19 cases at area facilities remained nearly the same as last week, although the number of cases across the state rose substantially.

Mahoning County facilities reported 35 cases this week, 28 among staff and seven among patients. The numbers were 29 among staff and seven among patients last week.

All four of the facilities with the highest number of cases have the exact same numbers as last week.

They are the Humility House nursing home in Austintown with six staff cases and no patient cases; Masternick Memorial Nursing Home in New Middletown with four staff cases and one patient case; the Inn at Poland Way assisted living in Poland with three staff cases and one patient case; and the Marian Living Center Assisted Living in in North Lima with four patient cases and no staff cases.

It’s possible those numbers are the same because they were not updated, which has happened before. Trumbull County facilities had six cases this week, one fewer than last week. No Columbiana County facilities reported cases.

Across the state, there were 530 patient cases and 791 staff cases this week, an increase of 306 cases from the previous week.

The number of cases at Ohio prisons this week rose from 168 to 198, with 128 being staff members and 70 being inmates.

The numbers at local prisons rose this week with the the Trumbull Correctional Institution seeing an increase from one to four staff cases this week, the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown having an increase from eight to nine staff cases this week and the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown seeing an increase from two to three cases this week.

None of the facilities has any inmate cases.
