The Ohio Department of Health reported 4,463 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, bringing the state total since the pandemic began to 1,298,625 — meaning the state will cross the 1.3 million threshold today if it records just 1,375 new cases.

Mahoning County reported 83 new cases Sunday, bringing the total to 25,569 with 627 deaths.

Trumbull County reported 82 new cases, bringing the total to 18,870 with 500 deaths.

Columbiana County reported 54 new cases bringing the total to 10,880 with 237 deaths.

Deaths were reported Friday for each county.

Statewide, 52.85 percent of the state’s population had at least started the vaccination process as of Sunday. In Mahoning County, 51.05 percent of the population has started the process, along with 48.80 percent of the population of Trumbull County and 41.42 percent of the population of Columbiana County.

In Trumbull County, the jail lobby is closed to the public for a week due to a staff COVID-19 outbreak, the jail administrator announced Friday. Maj. Dan Mason said eight or nine staff members have tested positive for the virus and have flu-like symptoms.

Officials said all CDC protocols have been followed and no inmate cases have been reported.

Visitation will not be allowed during the closure and all appointments for concealed carry permits will be rescheduled.
