Ohio exceeds 1.35 million COVID-19 cases

The state exceeded 1.35 million COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic with 4,899 new cases reported Monday.

The number of COVID-19 cases Monday is down from the daily average of 6,529 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

COVID-19 cases on Sundays and Mondays are usually lower than the rest of the week because of a lag in reporting during the weekend. There were 4,428 cases reported Sunday.

Before Sunday, the state had exceeded 5,500 daily cases in 17 of the previous 20 days, according to ODH data.

Monday’s total includes 310 cases in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties combined.

A little more than two months ago, all of Ohio was averaging about 260 cases a day.

The state had a total of 1,352,104 COVID-19 cases as of Monday, with 1,202,378 presumed recovered.

The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. The state had 21,471 total COVID-19 deaths as of Friday.

Mahoning County had 26,670 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday, with 23,731 presumed recovered and 637 deaths.

Trumbull County had 19,696 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday, with 17,566 presumed recovered and 508 deaths.

Columbiana County had 11,529 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday, with 9,958 presumed recovered and 239 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 6,239,594 people, 53.38 percent of the state’s population, who had at least started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 3,172 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 51.53 percent of the population, 117,845 people, have received at least one dose, with 49.29 percent of the population in Trumbull County, 97,585 people, and 41.93 percent in Columbiana County, 42,718 people, as of 6 a.m. Monday, according to the ODH.

There were 5,780,413 people, 49.45 percent of the state’s population,who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 5,371 in the prior 24 hours.

Mahoning County Public Health will have a COVID-19 vaccination clinic 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed from

noon to 1 p.m. for lunch, Thursday at its office at 50 Westchester Drive in Austintown.
