New COVID-19 cases in Ohio at lowest point since Aug. 30

Ohio reported the fewest number of daily COVID-19 cases in nearly a month Monday, which was also the fourth-straight day with a decline in reported cases.

The 3,681 cases Monday is down from the daily average of 6,503 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The state had 7,475 cases Thursday and has seen a decline every day since with 7,075 on Friday; 5,399 on Saturday; and 4,266 on Sunday.

COVID-19 cases on Sundays and Mondays are usually lower than the rest of the week because of a lag in reporting during the weekend.

But the 3,681 cases Monday are the fewest since 3,091 were reported Aug. 30.

Monday’s total includes 212 cases in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties combined.

The state had a total of 1,393,696 COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 1,245,186 presumed recovered.

The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. There were 21,820 total COVID-19 deaths as of Friday.

Mahoning County had 27,651 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 24,419 presumed recovered and 643 deaths.

Trumbull County had 20,465 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 18,012 presumed recovered and 516 deaths.

Columbiana County had 12,094 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 10,373 presumed recovered and 242 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 6,287,683 people, 53.79 percent of the state’s population, who had at least started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 3,742 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 51.89 percent of the population (118,674 people) had received at least one dose with 49.67 percent of the population in Trumbull County (98,335 people) and 42.27 percent in Columbiana County (43,065 people) as of 6 a.m. Monday, according to the ODH.

There were 5,837,603 people, 49.94 percent of the state’s population,who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 5,184 in the prior 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 48.26 percent of the population (110,355 people) had completed the process and 45.87 percent of the population in Trumbull (90,815 people) and 39.42 percent of the population in Columbiana (40,162 people) had as of 6 a.m. Monday.

The Trumbull County Combined Health District is having a Pfizer booster vaccination clinic 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Eastwood Mall in Niles, near its center court. The clinic is only for those who received Pfizer vaccines with the second dose at least six months ago and for those at least 65 years old. An appointment is required by going online to gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov.
