Girard man gets 10-to-life sentence

Pleads guilty to felony sex charges

WARREN — A Girard man was sentenced to 10-years-to-life after pleading guilty to multiple felony counts involving the rape of a now-teenage girl that had been going on for years, a prosecutor said.

Christopher A. Curlee, 55, of Washington Street, also was tagged by Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew D. Logan as a tier 3 sex offender, which means if he is released from prison, he will have to register his addresses with the local sheriff’s office every 90 days for the rest of his life.

Curlee pleaded guilty to four rape charges, a count of gross sexual imposition and a charge of disseminating sexual matter harmful to juveniles.

The guilty pleas canceled a scheduled evidence suppression hearing that was set for Logan’s court Sept. 23.

Curlee has been in jail since June 17, when the Girard Police Department completed its investigation of the case that has been ongoing for a number of years, according to Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman.

Wildman said the victim, who is now 15, is a relative of the defendant — who had also had exposed her to pornography in addition to the sexual assaults.

As part of the plea deal, Wildman said the court eliminated factual findings in the case.

“The Girard police need to be commended for doing a good job in investigating this case,” Wildman said.
