Chicago man facing city gun charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Joshua M. McCranie, 29, of Chicago, was arraigned Wednesday in Youngstown Municipal Court on carrying a concealed weapon for an incident at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday involving gunfire on Fifth Avenue.

Police were called to a Fifth Avenue address in the 1500 block for a fight and gunfire and were told to be on the lookout for a man wearing red boxer shorts and jeans but no shirt — in the street with a gun.

A short time later, dispatchers said a man was firing a gun and climbing into the window of a building — this one in the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue.

When police arrived, they saw McCranie, matching the description, in front of a building in the 1400 block of Fifth. As the cruiser pulled up, the man walked in another direction and shoved something into his pants, a police report states.

An officer pulled up along side of McCranie and asked him if he had just been in an altercation, and McCranie just walked away, then remarked that he’s not surprised that someone called the police about him.

McCranie appeared to have a gun in his pants, police noted in the report. After other officers arrived, police removed the weapon from McCranie’s pants and took him into custody.

The police report said McCranie threatened officers. He was taken to jail.

Starting at $3.23/week.
