3 nabbed, syringes found in reported burglary

GIRARD — A large number of syringes, suspected heroin and more than $600 were found and three people were arrested following a burglary call to a residence.

Jack Dean, 31, of 7469 Oregon Trail, Youngstown; Leslie Tate Jr., 34, of 107 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown; and Taylor Flannigan, 26, of 324 Hobart Road, Leavittsburg; pleaded not guilty at their arraignment Tuesday and bond was set at $10,000 for each.

The three are charged with breaking and entering. Dean and Tate have additional charges of resisting arrest and Flannigan also has a charge of falsification.

According to a police report, city officers were alerted to a burglary in progress at 318 St. Clair Ave. just before 8 p.m. Monday. The homeowner, who called police, said he saw people in his house.

The report states officers saw a woman, Flannigan, unconscious on the floor of the living room area when they entered the home. Police cleared the first level of the home and worked up to the second when an officer from Liberty Police Department, which assisted Girard police, said he had Tate at gunpoint on the roof of the garage.

Dean was found in the attic trying to hide in the crawl space, the report states. According to Girard officer John Freeman, a piece of clothing is what gave Dean away.

“Using my expandable baton, I began pushing on the attic door, feeling excess weight upon the other side of the hatch,” he wrote in his report. “At this time I observed what appeared to be basketball shorts in the crack of the hatch.”

Flannigan began to wake up and initially told police her name was Miranda Little and provided them with a false date of birth and Social Security number. She also told police she was invited to the home by someone named “Ken.” Paramedics said she needed to be taken to the hospital and said she finally gave her real name.

Flannigan was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment. Jail records show she was booked into Trumbull County jail at 4:09 a.m. Tuesday.

After the home was cleared, officers found “an abundance of dirty (syringes)” — saying the total amount was between 50 to 100, two “loaded” syringes, suspected heroin, personal belongings and $658 on the floor.

All three are due back in Girard Municipal Court Sept. 8 for preliminary hearings.
