Police: Man stole $1K in video games, food from business

AUSTINTOWN — Police say more than $1,000 in video games, food and shoes were stolen from a business, and a Youngstown man was arrested on a theft warrant.

Roger Fobes, 46, with a last known address of 471 N. Bon Air Ave., is accused of stealing frozen crab legs, lobsters, steaks, ribs, pork chops, shoes and numerous video games, a police report states.

The report states Fobes was stopped by loss prevention for Walmart, 6000 Mahoning Ave., who told police he observed Fobes scanning items at the store’s self-checkout, placing the unscanned items in the same bag and then place everything in his cart Aug. 20.

Officers also found out Fobes was warned off the property by police days before.

Due to a medical issue, the report states Fobes was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment. The report states Fobes left the hospital and was no longer in custody. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

Wednesday, officers took custody of Fobes from Youngstown police after his arrest on the warrants.

Court records show Fobes will be in Mahoning County Court 4 for an arraignment Monday.

Starting at $3.23/week.
